Tucson Engineering Jobs Created by Sargent Expansion
Several new Tucson engineering jobs and other aerospace positions are being created by a local company's expansion.
Sargent Aerospace & Defense recently announced its plans to expand the company's operations in Marana, a nearby suburb of Tucson. The company will build a new, 70,000-square-foot facility next to its existing, 60,000-square-foot structure along Interstate 10.
Sargent also was considering expanding in Torrance, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; Franklin, Ind.; and Montreal, Quebec. However, many factors convinced the company to remain in Marana, including the availability of aerospace workers in the metro Tucson area.
Tucson Engineering Jobs Training
Several entities are working together to prepare students for future Tucson engineering jobs.
Science Foundation Arizona recently awarded a competitive Math or Science Achievement Grant funded by the Arizona State Board of Education to a partnership between the Tucson Unified School District and the University of Arizona College of Engineering.
Such grants will be used to implement a new program meant to increase the number of engineering graduates throughout Arizona. The overall concept uses an innovative approach involving high schools and higher education institutions as partners in order to increase the pipeline of qualified engineers in the state.
